Hey all!
Today was a great day, I got quite a few electronic laptops, harddrives, an UPS unit, broken phones, an (almost) working X360 and other misc electronics. The best thing? ALL of this hardware was free
Anyways.. I also got this crappy Medion PNA GPS unit from this pile of junk.. Since this was already booting some wierd GoPal UI on top of the Windows CE 5.0 core (like most PNA's out there), I decided to see if it was possible to make it boot to the Windows CE desktop instead. I knew this was possible on some PNA's, since my older Navigon PNA 7000 could do this pretty easy.. It wasn't going to be as easy with this GPS though.
This is the PNA device I got today, the so-called MDPNA315t:

A long story short, I stumpled upon this cool FREE project called MioPocket. Apparently most WinCE based PNA's use some sort of autorun feature to automatically run .exe files from the SD card slot. These files, however, need to have the right name for the PNA to "see" and execute it. The readme listed following: "Medion: Copy MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe to the root of your SD card, then rename MioAutoRun.exe to GOCE.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to GOCE.mscr", so this is the filenames I used in this case.
1. Unpacked the downloaded .zip file from MioPocket
2. Copied the "media" & "MioAutoRun" folder to my SD card.
3. Copied MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe to the root of my SD card, then renamed MioAutoRun.exe to GOCE.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to GOCE.mscr
4. Inserted the card into the PNA device. It said a funny sound and then launched the installation:

After a quick reboot, I was greeted by the WindowsCE desktop ^_^

Afterwards it booted into the MioPocket dashboard & application launcher.

Of course it was still possible to use preinstalled Windows CE goodies

Thats it for now, see you next time with more news from RL
